Kempele
Kempele, or as the municipality website puts it, "It's good to grow up in
Kempele' Kempele, claims to be Finland's largest municipality by 'ratio of
old inhabitants to newcomers.' Its schools, of which it is very proud, 'aim
to the future' - and the area even houses a college and units of the Oulu
Natural Resource Institution.
The area, very close to Oulu, also has the biggest shopping centre around,
the Zeppelin, and is a zip away from Oulu airport.
It hosts a flower festival in spring, a swimming pool, and its own theatre
and choirs. Tourist-wise, the two most interesting Kempele items are
churches, one built in the 1600s and the other in the 1990s.
